Summary
This tutorial explains how to download and install C4Utility on a PC. C4Utility contains the software components for accessing Heliotis Gen4 devices. We then use the Heliotis Update Tool to check whether the connected device is detected and ready for use.
Installing C4Utility
C4Utility provides the software components for communicating with Heliotis Gen4 devices. These include the Heliotis GenTL Producer, the Update Tool, programming examples, and optional libraries for integration into different software environments.
1. Download C4Utility
On the Heliotis website, open Support → Software Downloads and download the latest version of C4Utility from the Gen4 software section.
Login is required to download the software. If you are not yet registered for the download area, complete the registration first and then log in.
2. Install C4Utility
Start the installer and accept the license agreement. You can then select the required components.
The GenTL Producer provides the standard interface for communicating with Heliotis Gen4 devices and should normally be installed.
The Heliotis Update Tool is used to detect and configure connected devices and to install firmware updates.
Optionally, programming examples for various machine-vision and programming environments can be installed, including HALCON, Python, CVB, NeuroCheck, Matrox Imaging Library, and Adaptive Vision Studio.
For applications that do not use a GenICam or GenTL interface, the C4Handler Library is also available. It enables direct integration of Heliotis Gen4 devices via interfaces for environments such as C, C#, LabVIEW, and MATLAB.
3. Check the device with the Update Tool
After the installation is complete, open the Heliotis Update Tool. Heliotis devices on the connected network are detected automatically.
A green status indicator shows that compatible firmware is installed on the device and that the device is ready for use.
If the status is shown in red, the device firmware may need to be updated. We show the procedure in Part 4 – Updating device firmware.
4. Change the IP address if required
If required, the device IP address can also be changed using the Heliotis Update Tool. This may be necessary, for example, to integrate the device into an existing machine or corporate network.
Next steps
C4Utility is now installed, and the Heliotis Gen4 device can be accessed from the supported programming and machine-vision environments.
