heliCam™

C4 / C4M

Massively parallel dual-phase demodulation – every pixel a Lock-in.

Lock-in camera for research

The heliCam™ C4 combines imaging and Lock-in signal processing. It enables massively parallel dual-phase demodulation of even weakly modulated optical signals – directly within the pixel.

Applications

Every pixel a Lock-in amplifier

Signal processing directly on the image plane

The Lock-in pixel signal processing developed and patented by Heliotis is at the heart of all our products. In our proprietary CMOS image sensor, phase-sensitive demodulation occurs directly at each pixel, not in the downstream signal path. Each pixel performs a synchronous I/Q measurement and outputs a 10-bit In-Phase (I) and a 10-bit Quadrature (Q) value (dual-phase demodulation). With I and Q, the amplitude and phase of the useful signal can be determined immediately – across the area, stably, and reproducibly.

This pixel-parallel demodulation suppresses constant background, 1/f noise, and non-synchronous interference light already during acquisition, making even very small, modulated signals reliably visible – without long averaging times. The platform is available in two resolutions: heliCam™ C4 (512 × 542 pixels) and the high-resolution heliCam™ C4M (1024 × 1102 pixels). The C4 platform thus paves the way for massively parallel Lock-in Imaging – the technological foundation of our camera family.

Connection and Integration

The heliCam™ C4 is connected via the heliDriver™ D3 module, which powers the camera and serves as a synchronization interface. By feeding in external control signals, the heliCam™ can be precisely coupled with experiments, measurement procedures, or external clock signals.

Optionally, the heliDriver™ can also control the illumination of the LED Accessory Kit. This kit simplifies commissioning and initial tests with the heliCam™, as it provides a stable, ready-to-use light source.

c4_wiring
For ease of use, the heliCam™ C4 is delivered standard with a graphical application that allows for convenient camera setup, control, and the acquisition and storage of measurement data. For integration into custom applications, a Software Development Kit (SDK) is also available – with support for Python, MATLAB, C++, C#, among others, including example code. This allows the heliCam™ to be flexibly integrated into existing measurement environments, automation systems, or research platforms.
